SailMaine by the Numbers

Largest High School Racing Program in the country

SailMaine regularly hosts 100+ students in the Spring Season and 130+ students in the Fall Season. Our fleet of Whitecap and Vanguard 420s are constantly in use with practices every weekday and regattas every weekend. High school sailors also take advantage of our keelboat fleet of J22s. Eight teams compete at SailMaine and we host many more during regattas. The Bowdoin Sailing Team also likes to come down and train for keelboat racing.

Largest 29er (high performance skiff) fleet in …

SailMaine has a fleet of five 29ers and two 49ers; several SailMaine sailors own personal 29ers which brings the local fleet to about 10 boats. Racers are engaged in training year round and travel to Florida in the winter for clinics and racing. Summer campers also get access to these amazing boats; the 29ers are the Junior Trainer of the 49er class boats (Olympic Class).

Serving 15+ Community Partners

SailMaine partners with schools all around Maine, Boys & Girls Club, The Adaptive Outdoor Education Center, QueerlyME, and many more community groups. Over 1000 hours of volunteer skipper time make these programs possible and facilitate 4000+ hours of free sailing.
