Portland High School Sailing Team

It's been over ten years since September 2006, when students from Portland High School (PHS) and Casco Bay High School (CBHS) joined forces and successfully won school committee approval for a school sanctioned sailing team at Portland High School.  Portland High School's Sailing Team is a member of the New England Schools Sailing Association (NESSA), a division of the Inter-Scholastic Sailing Association (ISSA). The Bulldogs have a strong sailing record in NESSA and have qualified for numerous regional regattas.

All interested students from Portland and Casco Bay High Schools, who have had some racing experience, are welcome as team members. High School sailing is one of the few school sports where girls and boys can compete with each other on equal terms. The Portland Sailing Team practices at SailMaine three days a week. SailMaine provides 24 Collegiate 420 class sailboats, 10 J 22 keelboats, access to the water, coaching, equipment, scholarships, and facilities. Teams practice together and in collaborative skill groups with sailors from other teams. Sailors will be checked out at the beginning of the season and sailors with less racing experience may practice with the SailMaine Development Team.
