Barnstable Team Race Invite
May 20, 2007

An early 5:30 AM departure from the Portland area brought teams from Cheverus and Cape Elizabeth to Barnstable, MA for a JV Team Race invite. A wet and breezy forecast had many thinking the event would get cancelled. Fortunately the weather cooperated with N’ly winds ranging from 6-10 kts for most of the day, and after the first few races the drizzle stopped, and the sky brightened, but the sun never showed. A total of eight teams attended the regatta, and a complete 28 race rotation was sailed with each team sailing one race against each competing team. Boat rotations were done at a T-dock, and allowed for lunch breaks in between races. The Barnstable Race committee did an excellent job of getting races off in a timely manner so all races in the rotation were completed by about 2:45 PM.
The unofficial results below do not include the final outcomes of the protests heard at the end of the day.
1st Tabor Academy 7-0
2nd Martha’s Vinyard 6-1
3rd Cape Elizabeth 4-3
4th BC High School 3-4
5th Cheverus 3-4 * Tied with BC High, but tie was broken by BC High beating Cheverus in their race
6th Sandwich 2-5
7th Barnstable 2 2-5 * Tied with Sandwich, but tie was broken by Sandwich beating Barnstable 2 in their race
8th Barnstable 1 1-6
Thank yous go out to Cheverus’ Stefanie Nichols for driving and supplying directions and maps to the group and Robert Deutsch for driving and early departure (prom transport), and Cape’s Bob Rice driving some of the CE team.
