“Capt’n Mike” Siepert
High School Sailing Assistant Coach
Mike has been coaching with SailMaine since the Fall of 2006. Mike grew up racing Toms River Prams and then Lasers on the Barnegat Bay in NJ. During High School, he raced Lasers during the summer on the Chesapeake Bay. A graduate of Maine Maritime Academy, he sailed on the Varsity sailing team, lettering all four years, and was team captain his senior year, where he placed 11th in the ICSA National Single-handed Championships. Mike also raced aboard the MMA offshore racing fleet during the summers, and was Captain of a Choate 40 his senior year. After graduation, Mike worked as Merchant Marine for twenty years, sailing as Captain of a crude oil tanker in the Alaskan trade for his last seven years at sea. Mike currently works as a Ship’s Pilot in Portland harbor. |
