Junior Program Apprentice

What is an apprentice? An apprentice at SailMaine works with the Casco Bay Junior Program, which runs from mid-June to late August. An apprentice must be in high school and by the summer, they should be entering their 10th grade year of high school.

Apprentices volunteer their time by working with the instructors and supporting various classes in the junior program. They are often asked to sail with the sailors in the class and various other tasks. Apprentices never drive the motorboats nor are they asked to supervise the students on their own.

Apprentices usually choose to work either in the morning or afternoon and some choose to work one session and often sail the other two sessions down at SailMaine in the advanced 420 class.

SailMaine generally hires 2-4 apprentices for the summer. SailMaine does not pay the apprentice. It is a volunteer position. Apprentices are asked to take a CPR and First Aid (SailMaine pays for this class).

If you are interested in applying to work as an apprentice, please send Program Director Alicia Mooradian an overview of your sailing experience as well as any experience you have had working with children.
