New for 2010 at SailMaine, Open Sailing Friday Evenings gives you a chance to explore the Portland waters under sail casually, with no racing pressure. We'll be sailing Fridays June 25th through August 13th from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM from our Portland Harborfront facility. This is a great chance for those of you who've learned the ropes with us, or who have some dinghy sailing experience to polish your skills and continue your enjoyment of the water under sail for yourselves.

Friday Open Sailing is available to sailors twelve years old and older with experience in sailing dinghys (Sunfish, Laser, 420, FJ, Lark, etc.). There will be a saftey patrol boat on hand, but participants are expected to be comfortable with handling a small sailboat, and aware of all the safety and boat handling considerations involved.

We will sail in the Collegiate 420, a sturdy, relatively high performance 14’ double-handed dinghy used in our College, High School, summer Junior Programs, and Maine Special Olympics Sailing.

The cost to sail in this series is $90 per person for the season. We're serving it up a la carte as well for $20 per person per night, if you can't commit to the whole 8 weeks. The first Friday of sailing is free for everyone: you can "Try before you buy". You must also complete a registration form before you sail.
