Ghosts and Goblins 2011

October 27, 2011
Horizontal Line

We had a great turnout for the regatta on Tuesday with twenty boats on the water with additional sailors being rotated into boats. Included in the mix of teams were the Intramural sailors who did a great job, especially with the heavy shifty winds. We got in six back-to-back races in winds that were gusting close to twenty miles per hour. The temps were in the low fifties, so you can imagine they were all getting pretty cold by the time they finished the last race.

Everybody sailed in costume and were treated with candy awards following the races. Many thanks to Quinn Lavigne for these excellent photos.

We had prizes of candy for the following categories;

  1. Most original Costume, won by Capt Eli and his root beer crew,
  2. Team with best costumes was won by the Southern Maine team,
  3. Coaches choice was won by Rebecca and Abby from Cape Elizabeth wearing Mario costumes,
  4. We had a special award that went out to the Rookies of the Regatta that was won by Nate and Bevin of the Intramural Team. They managed to keep their boats upright and finish every race; not bad considering we had three capsizes and a couple of swamped boats and many near tip overs.
  5. Best Maritime costume was won by Pirates from the Southern Maine Team.
  6. Honorable mention goes out to Lars and his crew who wore full head wrestling masks.
  7. Honorable mention also goes to two bananas that spent the afternoon huddling to stay warm in the bow of the committee boat.
