Laura Angell Evangelista
Portland High School Coach/Junior Program Assistant Director
Laura has been a part of SailMaine on and off since the summer of 2006. She functioned as the Junior Program Assistant Director in the summer of 2009 and has also taught beginner, intermediate, and advanced 420 sailing and racing at SailMaine. Spring of 2010 will mark her fourth and final season as the Portland High School Sailing Team's Head Coach and her first season as the High School Sailing Program Director.
Before Laura came to Portland and SailMaine, she taught at various sailing programs throughout New England, including Center Harbor Yacht Club in Brooklin, Maine, where she began sailing at age 6. She graduated from the University of Vermont in 2007, where she was an active member of the dinghy team throughout her four year college career. Though she misses the collegiate circuit and her beloved Catamounts, Laura maintains her competitive edge by joining SailMaine's team racing series in the summers and frostbiting series in the winters.
Laura shows her support of SailMaine at the grassroots level by taking part in SailMaine's event organization, functioning as the Event Coordinator of the SailMaine Soiree in 2008 and SailMaine's 2nd and 3rd Annual Open House in 2009 and 2010. She is also a member of SailMaine's Events and Marketing Committees.
